Greece – Historic Athens

After our fabulous time on Santorini, we returned to the mainland and spent a few days in Athens. I couldn’t get over the history of the city or the hills. I had no idea it was so hilly. Walking around definitely increases your heart rate, especially with the heat and humidity. We stayed at the lovely Acropolis Hill Apartment. It was close to everything but in a quiet neighborhood – and had an amazing view of the Acropolis from the balcony. It would be great for larger groups, which is sometimes a challenging request for European places. It has a kitchen, three bedrooms, and two baths.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel great during this part of the trip, so I missed the big sightseeing tour, but I could go out and explore. I couldn’t get over the history of the city.

It was amazing to see history at every turn. You can get so close to ruins that are hundreds of years old.

Like many other European cities, dogs are welcome throughout Athens but not in grocery stores. The grocery store we stopped at had this little “dog parking” area, which made me laugh. I can not imagine our dog Maggie hanging out without barking her head off. The grocery stores here in our town in the Netherlands also have tie-off hooks for dogs, but nothing as deliberate as these “dog parking” areas.
