I am a day late, but yesterday was National Tulip Day in The Netherlands. This is the eleventh year for Tulip Day, which takes place on the third Saturday in January.
While bulbs are starting to pop up in my garden, we are not close to full blown flowers. We likely have some cold weather still to come. But, for Tulip Day, 200,000 tulips are Brough into the center of Amsterdam for people to pick (for free). These tulips are grown in greenhouses, starting in November/December.
This is really the kickoff of tulip season. The Tulip Festival will run from March 23-May 14, 2023, but peak blooming is expected in April. Lucky for us, we are only a bike ride away from the largest and best known tulip fields, Keukenhof Flower Gardens. I can’t wait.
