Halloween 2022

I know Halloween is a North American holiday, but somehow, living in a place with so many American expats, I thought it might spill over here. Not one trick-or-treater last night.

The school had a trunk-or-treat event before fall break, which was way too early for me, but there was no better day. About 30 families volunteered to give out candies, including us. Funny enough, I had never been to a trunk-or-treat before. Yes, I know they have them in the U.S., we have always lived in neighborhoods with great trick-or-treating though, so we never too part. So when people started to ask me about our “theme,” I got a bit intimidated. I had no theme. I had some sparse decorations that I was able to find on Amazon.nl and candy.

On Saturday the mail shopping street in our town, which is pedestrians only, had trick-or-treating for the kids. Stores gave out traditional halloween candy, and some even upped their game with fresh cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, and crafts. It was really fun to watch all the little ones having such a good time.

The local English language news outlet posted that trick-or-treating did happen in some parts of our town over the weekend. Clearly we need to coordinate with our neighbors for next year.
