One of the things we used to sell our daughter on making the move to The Netherlands was the proximity to other places in Europe and the number of places we could see easily on a weekend or a long weekend. This past week, my husband was in Houston for the first time since we moved. I knew this was going to be hard for both her and me, since we are still battling homesickness. So, with a planned early dismissal day on Friday we took the opportunity to hit the rails and head to Paris for the weekend.
We are fortunate to have close friends who are living in Paris on their own expat adventure. So it was an easy and inexpensive adventure. We hopped on the Thalys train in Rotterdam, and roughly three hours later we were at Gard de Nord.

The weekend was a hit and the best part – we got to take it easy and really enjoy ourselves, rather than running around trying to see everything. This is the really nice thing about being able to get there for a weekend trip.
